WASTED
AMSTERDAM
Biography
The States have Vegas, Europe has Amsterdam. No surprise that the Dutch city of sin gave birth to a rock band named 'Wasted'.
But don't be fooled. Wasted is determined not to waste time at the sidelines of life. The bands motto 'Life's worth living' is taken to heart and has sparked enthusiasm from the USA to Japan.
Over the last 3 years Wasted has slowly spread like a fire in the underbrush of the European live circuit. With a sound that is founded on the personal inspirations from the bands members such as Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Motörhead and the Dixie Chicks and many others Wasted creates their own unique blend. With pre-production work on Wasted's debut album in full effect, Frank Suicide (lead guitar), Alex BL. (main Vox & Bass) and Roland Ritchie (Drums) are stepping into the limelight.
“This band makes my cornflakes taste better in the morning knowing that i will play with the boys that day”, says Frank. “When i first started Wasted i imagined it to be like this. Those early years where really a stepping stone towards new creative insights. It gave me a tremendous respect for band leaders pushing their band to new levels. It doesn't matter if your in a high school group or in a signed band, that's a tough job any day. But the personal rewards can be awesome. I got us to open for legendary artists like Dee Dee Ramone and Lynyrd Skynyd so to get our feet really wet”.
“I met Alex on May 18th 2004 in Düsseldorf, Germany. I was visiting friends and at night we checked out a band called Sue U at this local raunchy little nightclub. Alex was main vox and guitarist and he blew me away that night. Cause we shared the stage once before i knew that he was an awesome bass player to the level he was supporting Slash's Snakepit on all the German slots with his former band Stonewashed in the late nineties. I knew i wanted Alex in Wasted”.
Alex adds; “After the show we had this after party in a karaoke bar. Me and Frank started talking and we're completely in sync. My love for the bass has always been bigger than guitar and i was ready to smash that fucker up”. “That's mainly his Croatian Balkan upbringing”, Frank laughs. Alex continues; ”At that time we just finished building our own recording studio and then we lost the guitar player so i had to fill that spot which was ok but not the same anymore. Rehearsals became a drag and pointless. The magic was gone.
Meanwhile here was mr. Suicide asking me if i was willing to fill in the bass spot. So I told Frank I'd think about it and i called him back two days later to fix a date. The next Saturday i drove to Holland, we started jamming and the right vibe was in the air and i went; Fuck it, I'm in!".
Frank continues; ”In the following months a slumbering creative difference with the lead singer prompted the decision to transform Wasted into a three piece. I was determined to play the cards they were dealt”. "So, while sitting on Franks balcony monitoring our options for the singer situation the good old 'Oooh, Alex...you're a singer right??' struck me", Alex laughs. “There was no need to convince me! There was no turning back when Frank triggert my musician-ego asking me if i could play bass and sing at the same time 'Hell yeah, what do you think!'”.
"But all things really fell into place the moment we found our drummer Roland Ritchie on Myspace”, Frank says. “On the 16th of September 2006 we met up at the venue where we were opening for 'the Answer'. We looked completely eye to eye and invited him for a rehearsal”. “5 minutes into the rehearsal i offered him the spot”, Alex adds. “And i took it!” ,Roland smiles. “There was no time to waste 'cause we would support the legendary Detroit band 'the MC5' on the 5th of December in the famous Amsterdam Paradiso. Continuing our high paced rehearsal schedule into early 2007 we got invited to tour with our good friends Japans own 'Electric Eel Shock'.
Frank continues, “Preparing for the road i got a call from the management team of the Bloodhound Gang, if we were interested in supporting them on their Dutch and Belgium dates. Those gigs were a blast and we made a couple of our Sinners really happy with open guest list spots. During one of those shows an A&R manager was in the crowd. Enthusiasm has always been our thing and he sent us an email that next monday morning saying he loved the show. End of May 2007 we signed a worldwide deal with the Strengholt Music Group.
At the moment we're in the middle of pre-producing our first studio album and it sounds big, written from the heart and own experience. It's a total outlet for our inner joy and rage. We're bringing that stage energy to cd for the first time. With our foot on the gas and no brakes on the fun”
